Wanted - shallow boating pond
« on: March 08, 2014, 02:24:16 pm »

Wanted  -  shallow boating pond.

Unusual request.  I had considered putting this under “Wanted” but does not meet Mayhem requirements.

Wanted:  Model boating pond large enough for test trial of a 1.6 m ultra low freeboad warship, but shallow enough so I can easily recover it if my upgrades prove insufficient.  Within reasonable driving range of Windsor.  I don’t have waders.  Where have all the shallow boating ponds of my youth gone?
Only so much you can test in the bath.  I need a good run at moderate speed to verify watertightness.

Just a tad far A42, but thanks for the thought.

Stoke Park is closed until May. Not sure if they allow RC boats, but I will call to check on Monday.

There used to be masses of small boating ponds, but no doubt H&S fears have filled them in.
Before anyone suggests The Green in Datchet, water has gone and the road reopened.

Now that looks a big lake.  Nice video.  Great Civil War warships.
How deep is it in case recovery in needed?

The only water item on your previous link said "Stoke Park paddling pool.  The paddling pool is now closed and will reopen May 2014."   Hence my reply.

Ah. The boat pond is behind the paddling pool. you can park in guildford college at weekends then in the far right hand corner from the car park entrance there is a gate into the park, follow the path to the left and you'll find the lake, it is no deeper than 2 feet, i have wadded out on many occassions. but we do also have other recovery means that are usually tried first.

Look for a guy with white hair and beard that will be Jym a friend of mine.
Unfortunately I have to attend first aid training tomorrow so won't be there, if you go tell him Kev sent you.

Many thanks.  Sounds ideal.  I need to finish rebuilding the electrics first.  It is a semi submersible with some challenging internals hence tha caution.

I normally sail at Black Park, which is a nice facility but quite deep even close inshore.

%).....Bob K...we have a lovely semi shallow [just 30 ft deep!] boating water just near the [Sydney] airport......called St George Model Boat Club.......very friendly people....weather always good  :-))

Minor problem is that it is 22,000 km away from you....... {-).....keep us posted with progress on that semi leaky submersible warship....... Derek

Thanks for the kind offer Derek.  However that lake is even farther than Aberdeen and the depth similar to our Black Park.  It would be great to meet you one day though  O0

What about Bushey Park next to Hampton Court, the pond is open to the public, on Sunday mornings there are usually a few of us there to help recover boats.

bob i may be able to help !

chesham has a municipal pond, concrete and shallow, but can suffer from goose poo on the path all the way round the edge, there is also a boat club there....

other suggestion is feltham again its a municipal pond, - we sailed models there some years ago when black park was drained.........

Thanks.  Chesham is a bit far.  Photos of Bushy Park pond and Feltham pond interesting, but can't find any info about depth for either.  Look too large and deep for walking out into though.  Might try Guildford. It's purely for test runs at easily recoverable depth.
