So...what next?
« on: June 28, 2007, 07:13:40 pm »

I am on the lookout for the next big project............

Something with a bit of a challenge, possibly with a few frills. Nothing with a gun on it.

So far Aziz took 7 months, Highlander took 5months.....want something that will be more than 5 months build.

Possible candidates:

Model Slipway Yorkshireman - SWMBO likes it (should make it an easier sell) - maybe a mod to put steerable Korts in it and squirty forie whatsits.

Model Slipway Gry Maritha - fun, a bit different - could put toys on the crane

Graupner Parat - lots of toys - I fancy the VSPs and it has lots of frills - but I wonder if there is the build time in it

Metcalf Graemsey - something a bit different

So has anyone any comments on any of these - or any other suggestions

How about a Robbe Berlin with all the trimmings. Just add radio, paint, glue and about 9 months work and you're away.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Oh, by the way, I have a kit for sale at 1/2 price

Nige - hope you don't mind but I have copied your Red Duster  ::) I've been unsuccessfully searching for one for ages and had to settle for the Union Jack which made me look a bit over patriotic. I'll take it off if you object !!

Gry Maritha a good option - and easy to see the real thing to get pictures. She is in Penzance HArbour Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturday midday onwards and Sundays ! Lots of detail can be added and plenty of options for cargo !

Wombat,
The Gry Maritha is a great Model to build  it Took me around 9 months to build in between other jobs, plenty of room for extras,I've fitted bow thruster, working fire monitor, and the crane also works.

Cheers Nige, that wasn't on the list, but maybe worth a thought....

I was taken with the Gry Maritha, though not that easy for me to get down to Penzance to see it. So does anyone have any other thoughts?

Hi a3nige,

Is your "Hermann Marwede" the Revell static kit? Saw the kit in my local model shop window priced at a lowly £35 and I fancy sticking R/C in one to sail it. I have done the Matchbox Corvette years ago and fancy a crack at something different.

Regards
Clive :)

Hi Bigford,

Good suggestions - is the Smit Hunter a repainted version of the Happy Hunter? I did fancy doing a version of the "Mighty Servant" which is similar to the "Black Marlin". After the disaster with Fawkes, though, I am rather wary of doing anything that has the intention of sinking.

Seems I will end up doing something tugtastic, though Gry Maritha is still on the list. Looking at the cost of adding extra functionality to the RC system, though, is giving me a little pause for thought. The Robbe system is a nice idea but bl***y expensive and I really do not like the F14 transmitter. I am toying with knocking up my own expandable system to work alongside the main RC, possibly using the 433MHz license exempt modules and lots of PICs - advantage would be that you could have telemetry on the system as well. Cost I reckon, if I can do it would be about £100 including dev tools. I would then use the main RC for controlling the boat and the other system for all the accessories.

Hello Clive, the photos are some I found on the net, I have not built the Berlin I have for sale, I was just trying to get some interest up to show what it could look like.

shouldn't your tag line read "a bad days boating is better than a good day working" ?

Well, the decision has been made - it looks like it will be Gry Maritha. All the toys will go on it.

I have just bought the dev tools for PIC development, will let you all know what I achieve - mainly things like relay switchers, but with smarts - like limit switching.
