Beautiful work.   :-))

Is your gas regulator's steam pressure sensing line coming off the top of your sight glass?

Hi Landlocked
Thank you for that.
Yes you are correct, they are made by BIX and supplied by Forest Classic here in UK. The pump is electric and controlled by the sensor you can see on the sight glass .

Mike,

I have the BIX regulator.  Works great (as long as you get the in and out sides right  >:-o )

I'm still working my feed system.  I have a mechanical pump but I'm trying a wet probe controlled relay closing my bypass valve.  We'll see this summer.  Where did you get your optical sensor?

Hi LL

The feed pump came as a complete set up, optical sensor and electronics, ram mated to a futaba servo, I've had this stashed away for 7-8 years  un-used. It was produced by a company called SVS however they sold up to Tony Green steam but I don't know if the do the pump, certainly do the engines. http://www.tonygreensteammodels.co.uk/.
It still work but not tested under running conditions on the pond with the engine working hard!!. Tomorrow weather forecast is good so I intent to give it a good run.
Regards

Thanks,

I couldn't find it on their website.  I'll keep working my approach. My system is built off of a BF Industries product but they've ceased production.  I guess we're not a big enough market.

Hi All
Well she sailed very well today, the engine is more than enough power for this hull, using a 70mm prop, now just need to see if the pump is man enough to keep up with demand  :-) . Forgot camera but this photo is from phone. More next time

Looks fine on the water Mike..& as you say plenty of power in reserve  :-))

When you referred to the pump...I assume it is SVS setup...."The feed pump came as a complete set up, optical sensor and electronics"

So how did it perform with the 4.5 CC Anton engine?

Hi Derek

Yes more than enough power (lovely engine).

Its the full SVS setup and seems to work well, I must admit I haven't done much of a test , but first observation is it cant keep up, over the next few weeks I'll pay more attention and do some timings. Tank capacity is almost the same as the boiler.

Hi Mike
Beautifully turned out model; I hope mine is at least as half as good as yours.
I am using the same hull and have got a TVR1A plant with a Macc steam horizontal boiler.  I have planked the deck with mahogany and am now struggling to bend the mahogany strip to the front curved section of the coaming.  You seem to have made a good job of it and I wonder whether you can give me some tips on how to go about this.  I am using 2mm thick x 30mm wide (sapele?) mahogany.  I have tried soaking it in hot water without success and I think some people steam it.
Another way I thought of doing it would be to use 1mm ply, which would be more flexible to bend round the curve, and then glue a thin mahogany veneer on both sides.  The question with this method is where does one buy thin mahogany veneer and how would you finish off the top as the ply would be showing on the top edge?  Regards, Roger.

Hi Roger
Thank you for that.
I used 1.5mm mahogany , soaked for around half hour in hot water then pushed into place in deck and held with clamps until dry, then glued that in, then did same again, and used obechi on the top to cover up the joint, however have also used the ply method you mention on other boats, veneer can be obtained on ebay like this:-

Hi Mike
Thanks for that and maybe using 2mm thick mahogany is expecting just a bit too much.  I will get my mate to plane me down something more suitable.  Thank you also for the link for veneer which will be followed up.  I will let you know how I get on.
Thanks also to Steam Up for the Mr Muscle recommendation.  What is the mahogany softening agent in Mr Muscle I wonder!?
Just another thought Mike, did you do the stern gunwale in the same way as that's an even tighter curve?
Cheers

Hi Roger

Yes same method, I did have the odd cracked one but think that was down to the grain, as I cut strips from slightly different sheet.

Let us know how you get on

I can endorse the window cleaner method for mahogany/Sapele. See Jerrys steam launch Wear for how I did it. Take it slow, spray often. I let gravity work for me. Took me a day and a night.
Jerry.
