props

Morning all
One of the old boys at work was having a clear out at home and found couple of props which he gave to me. Both are 40mm M4 any idea what the 5 blade could be used for?

Blades are rather fat for a sub prop. This would be more likely fitted to a skimmer.

I thought the 5 blade looked like a sub one but more likely some low rpm merchant ship. The old boy had just  moved house and found them amungst some kids toys so knowing I was into model boat gave them to me.
Just wonder if anyone knew as its a slow feiday here!

Submarine scimitar props tend to have a higher aspect profile and more blades.

I used the same five bladed one on my Dragonfish, it was pretty useless to be honest. Not really a sub prop...

Hi.
Its called a scimitar prop, as related to the shape of the blade. The RN type 23 and type 45 have them.

Cool. When HMS Westminster docks down later this year I will have a look. Never really looked at the props on them in all the years I have worked on the class - I worked the last 7 years as a Ship Warden in Portsmouth Dockyard which ment I replaced the RN crew while ships were being refitted. So I have spent 12 hour shifts lookibg after 7 type 23's 4 type 42's and all the Hunt class minesweepers plus HMS Scott  , the Ark Royal and the Lusty plus some Brasilian patrol boats. I should really be making warships but its early days yet.
