Mountfleet "Danny Boy"

Hi All
Just bought the kit and had planned on steaming it however, I've decided to put electric in, the big question what motor brushless or brushed, if brushed geared belt or gears and finally what size motor.
Thanks all
Mike

You will get better low-speed control with a brushed set-up. I'd probably start with one of these on 12v: http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/torpedo_850_belt_drive.html

Morning Steamshed
Not sure the size of a Danny boy hull but if you can fit this motor in http://www.modelboatbits.com/shop/article_MBB-900M/900-HIGH-TORQUE-MOTOR.html?sessid=UoLjeGfIhMRsKtOKjC8VSNRRmvtVO8zTdNpXZXbSsyvuDIcfiu6zpc7LnVPw1wmF&shop_param=cid%3D86%26aid%3DMBB-900M%26

I built the original prototype Danny Boy when in league with Frank Hinchliffe in the mid 1990's and used a 1 quid buhler motor direct drive to the 4 blade prop....and it worked just fine..great very slow speed, you could actually see the single revolutions of the prop, and she turned out a good just higher than scale speed to get you out of difficulty.......I sailed her for 4 hours one day with that set up, and the motor didn't even break into a warm sweat, lol
and as with me, no finesse. the motor was stuck to the hull with a wodge of blutack, as others will no doubt have ridiculed me about, {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-) {-)
