I've not heard of it being done sorry. That's not to say it can't be done.

I'm sure you've tried already, but being as you only need three channels, and on a mode 2 TX ch3 is throttle and 5 and 6 are either gear or flaps. Setup one of the three ch rx with a servo in each and see if they respond to your existing TX. Usually on a three ch system throttle is one, steering is two and aux is three

If you are still using your F14, it's a big plug and play bundle inside, so note where the ch plugs are now (they're all numbered in mine anyhow), and then you can try replugging the ch plugs till you get the ones you want plugged into the chs you want to make the three ch rx respond how you want.

There is really nothing to stop two receivers being in the same boat, they just each need their own transmitter.  Not a very elegant way of getting 6 control functions, but feasible.  Ish.
A model control receiver is not much like a normal radio which just feeds its output to a loudspeaker.  It takes an encoded signal which is carrying the information for the various output channels and distributes them, using hardwired logic circuits, to the required output slots.  In the case of a 3 channel set, the hardware is designed for 3 channels and that is what the hardware is designed to count up to.  Adding more requires a complete rebuild of the output stage, taking another and sort of grafting it on is not an option, since having the ability to count up to six is not the same as counting up to three twice.
