Sea Plane Tender ST200
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:26:32 pm »

I made this model around 2 - 3 years ago and apart from trying to test it with some brand new NiHm batteries that kept going flat, and a couple of blown fuses I eventually gave up trying to sail it until the other day, when I decided to re rig it inside with a new 3.2amph 12v gel cell battery.............

well, the result down on the pond at Fleetwood ( the small one at the end, as I had had failures before and didn't fancy waiting an hour whilst it drifted in) and set her going...............I was very pleased with her for .....................all of 3 - 4 minutes........where she stopped dead in the water again....................Oh sod it I thought!!!.......and it was at the far end of the lake with the wind blowing my way.............so another 15 minute wait.....................but, as she got closer I began to lift the spirits............she hadn't failed at all................it was the fault of some toe rag who comes down to the lake..........feeds the b****** sea gulls and then throws the plastic bag in the water instead of taking it home...............see the same people regularly doing it, and you get a mouthful and threats of violence if you tell them about it.....................

but the boat floated well, got up on the plane well and reversed well when she hadn't a placky bag wrapped round both props...............sadly the weather has been awful since........but looking forward to another play next week when we are promised better weather.

You have my sympathy Neil.  We have the same problem on our club water, The Lido at Clarence Park in Bury even though the council have put up notices around the lake saying do not feed the birds, (in several languages) and for those that are to thick or stupid or just don't care, they set up a feeding station, which not surprisingly is hardly ever used >>:-(

Last Sunday I had just opened up the clubhouse when two young boys thought it was great fun to get the rubbish bag out of a near by bin and empty it into the lake while their father watched.  When I went to him to ask why he did not stop them all I got was "Don't speak English" whereby they then made a dash for their car and drove off?

Sorry about my little rant Neil, don't often go on like that?

Is that a model of the first Flying Christine?  I was shown around a later boat not long before she went aground on some rocks and holed.  I don't know if she was repaired or not, do you konw? Graham

yes matey.................but you've confused me now as I thought it was this one that was smashed against rocks in a storm..............but, I do know that the model of the second boat FC11 was built by a guy who went on holiday to Guernsey a few years ago, and liked the boat so much he built a model of her and presented her to the station.......a lovely model it was too.............and from all accounts the guy came from (either ) bury or Blackburn club.............close to you. neil.

Hi Neil, the accident I was referring to happened in 2006 during a thunder storm, I just found it on the net and she was holed in the bow?  I think it was FC II which was involved??

the original was smashed to pieces some years ago when she broke free from her moorings and driven onto the sea defences.

thanks howard............it was a journey back I time, using diagonal planking for the hull, and then spoiling it all by making a grp mould, lol.
