NEW BRIGHTON RNLI HOVERCRAFT
« on: May 29, 2014, 08:08:46 pm »

Whilst waiting for a certain Calmac ferry to come down the river Mersey last night I had the good fortune of seeing my first RNLI hovercraft actually in operation as opposed to just sitting in the boat house ( or should I say hanger) or on the back of a truck..............and took some video of her which I will try to down load to youtube later, of her playing around to finally being recovered on to the back of the truck. neil........had a good chat with the crew and took some photos of the engines as well.............was told that the engines are actually Rolls Royce motors.........is this true/.......I haven't a clue.

I think the GRIFFON Hovercraft use VOLVO motors, petrol or diesel I'm not sure . . . Their often out on the river training etc , I heard a rumour the RNLI are bringing it to the RNLI day at New Brighton model boat lake on the 27th July , the inshore will be there for certain . . . .

they certainly didn't have any RR builder's plates on them bill..........that's why I was surprised when he said Rolls Royce engines............but they were definitely diesels.

Guys....I didn't think that RR made any small diesels.......so WIKI confirms they are 1.9 litre VW turbo diesels..... %)..........Derek
