1/1 scale Aliens Facehugger.
« on: June 01, 2014, 11:41:09 am »

I have been working on this for the past few days, on and off, between the wagon dio and it fought me all the way, in the end I began to really hate it so much! It is vinyl and was twisted, softening didn't work, the fit was horrible, all my arsenal of adhesives might have just been water, even epoxy failed in some places and resorted to hot welding it with rubbish results as I couldn't get in to sand enough so it is a tad rough. It is missing its tail end as it fell off again and got wanged across the workshed...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. >:-o

Paint wise it has been grey primed, airbrushed, sponged with enamels, matt varnished and clear resin added for the moist parts. To say I did battle with this beasty is a understatement...I'm still not sure who won...it probably.

Si...exhausted.

Hmm, not sure if we are thinking of the same thing Neil but if I saw one like that I would run.
Looks a little too realistic for in the garden though, would scare the daylights out of the missus.

What do you mean 1:1 is not a model?

I built a few of these vinyl kits in my time, including both this Facehugger and the Queen Facehugger. Best glue being cyanoacrylate, best tool for getting the shape right being a hairdrier ( or boiling water, beware, boiling water can be hot! ), best for trimming, scissors. once again when warmed up. Best filler, any plastic kit filler, Humbrol, Revell Plasto etc, thinned with either cellulose thinners or Humbrol Liquid Plastic Weld. Chase that into the joins with an old hobby brush, dont try to sand it, it dont like it.

I miss vinyl kits :((

I've got a perverse mind, it looks like an old girlfriends...........  :police: i'll stop before I get sensored.

Would scare the eeebeee jeebees out of me if I came across it - being an arachnaphobic.
