Hi All

Is the Waverider 30"(710 mm) as I think I bought one yesterday which was setup with a Johnson 888 rudder set runner.

Hi All
After looking at all the pics, yes I have a Waverider!!!

Lookout if I hit another boat as I installed a 3648-1450kv brushless motor 1600Watts on 6S.
I am going to use 3S to start with and may go to 4S !!!

Hi All
Decided to install a 2836-1800kv on 3S with a 3blade 30mm prop.
Using the boat to test motors and props.
Finished to boat today and dry tested the setup.

Hi there.
I'm new to the forum, so have little idea how things work.
But .. I do have set of Waverider plans and I got here as Google said that you were looking for a set - I also still have the Waverider (that I built when I was 11 or 12 I think..)
Are you still interested in a copy?
Cheers all.

The first Rc boat i had was the Norstar Wave crest, 1975, followed by the crash tender. They were good solid kits but i seem to remember it taking ages to file the chamfer on the keel. I had a Johnson 605 motor and a 6v lead acid motor bike battery to power it and Waltron 2 channel radio gear. Happy Days!

I had a Waverider in the mid 70s, but I had an Enya .19 in mine and it went like no tomorrow!  :-))

I ran it across Swanage Bay to the Old Harry Rocks, driving it from a chase boat, and the Waverider was faster than the chase boat.  :-)

Somewhere I've still got that Enya.

Prompted by the plans request, I got my old Waverider out again last weekend. It had had a midlife upgrade about 10 years ago - the old (unsilenced) Frog150 had come out and a (silenced) Merco35 had gone in. It currently has a X45 prop on it.
Last weekend after some fettling it managed about 21mph (real speed) which looked pretty fast but is probably quite slow for a fast model boat. But I have no idea really.

So... can anyone help me with....
a) What real speed a Waverider should be able to achieve (mine porpoised very badly at full throttle with the Merco and so I have had to fit some aluminium 'trim tabs' to the transom to get it run flat)?
b) what prop should I have on an old Merco35? From the sound track, the engine is turning just under 10,000rpm (9960rpm as per spectrogram on audio track) which suggests a smaller diameter prop is required.

Apologies for commenting on an old thread, but I wondered if anyone still had a copy of the Wave Rider plans at all, as a copy of one would be extremely handy to have for 'rejuvenating' my Wave Rider that I bought in need of some TLC.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi Will, I have an old kit for the Waverider, including the plan. I intend to build it, but if I can find somewhere able to scan/copy the plan I'll be happy to share it with you.

Hi Dave_S, thank you very much for replying to my post, and also the possible offer of a copy of the plan.  I would be extremely grateful if you were to get a chance at all to have the plan scanned (no rush, I'm far from the quickest worker), even if it was just to an electronic PDF file rather than a paper copy.
In fact, a PDF may well be cheaper and easier all round anyway, plus if you ever wanted a fresh copy of the plan, you would have the file to be able to have it printed from. There are a few printers around my area where I could get the plan printed out.
If this does happen at all, please let me know of any costs incurred, as I would of course reimburse you.

There are a couple of places that can scan documents, but I'd need to check that they can manage something the size of the plan.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thank you very much Dave_S, that's very kind of you.  Like I said, no rush, as and when/if you get a chance.

Thank you.

Anyone with a standard A4 scanner can scan full size plans, it just takes a little extra time and patience.   O0

I have found a company in Witney (nearest town to where we live) and hope to hear back from them soon.

I have plenty of time but very little patience! I have found a local place that may be able to do it, depends on the quality of the original plan. I'll visit the place tomorrow so they can say whether or not they can do it. There is a risk that the plan may be damaged if it's not in good condition, and as it is around 60 years old, it might well not be! I don't want to damage my precious Waverider plan.

Only problem is, with a commercial "scanner" operation is garbage in, garbage out. By this I mean, if the original is poor quality, the resultant scan will duplicate this. As far as damage limitation to original, you should enquire how the plan is going to be scanned. invariably commercial machines work on the principle of the plan being fed through a roller system similar to a printer. Had any printer jambs lately? Check your PM box Dave.

PM read and reply sent.

They did say it would have to go through a roller, but I will take the plan there and see what they think. I really do not want the plan damaged, though. It took me quite a while to find one and I haven't see any more since then.

Yes, they seem to be full size. I'll check with some of the remaining pre-cut parts to make sure.

Would suggest you trace round the pre cuts onto plain paper for future ref.

I usually do that in case of breakage or loss, but some of the parts have fallen apart - but I am sure I'll be able to work out what's missing.
