Hi all,
Can someone advise me as to whether the deck of the Tamar is of a non slip texture similar to the Severn.

The decks are non slip texture, grey, albeit different colours in different areas.
This is the the Salcombe lifeboat.

On Tamar 16-25 the texture is a 0.5mm variation in surface levels, at 1:12 scale that is 0.042mm.  None of us build to that level of realism and any visible texture on the model will be way off scale.

Kinmel.........I think the idea of modelling to most of us on here is to build our models looking as close to the real thing as possible and not to the "nth" degree where the model doesn't look blande because certain items cannot be replicated in full.
I leave this to the model engineer myself where the item is so close to the real deal that it becomes untouchable because of it's delicacy.....

So like most of the modellers who re create the more modern lifeboat with none slip decks we all feel that the textured paint such as Rustoleum from homebase are perfectly suitable for the purpose, een if a little over scale.

I understand that Neil, I have used Rustoleum myself to get the textured finish.

In reality you can't see the texture of the deck of the real boat unless you are stood on it and you look really closely. Even then most people run their hand over the deck to check if it is in fact textured.

I now just paint the deck the appropriate matt colour and no-one has ever commented on the missing texture.

Upol do a spray, intended as a texture paint for repairing plastic bumpers. It comes in several grades and I have found the finest to give the best affect on the Tamar.
The grip paint on a Tamar looks sprayed I think so is very subtle as you say.
Note the roof. Just a flatter finish than on the smooth parts would probably look good. That's what I shall try.

In earlier times, the grip paint was applied to decks with a big brush and was very uneven in places. I did one like it once and it looked awful, like I could do no better.
