What part of 'No Thanks' don't you understand  ;D ;D ;D ;D

(No Offence intended - the written word is not as flexible as the spoken intonantion)

Wouldn't it be boring if we all liked and did the same things ???

Enjoy your boating of whatever scale

Hey Daryl, I saw a complete Murmansk class Russian sub for sale in Nuclear Engineer magazine, POA I think!  Also, there is a WWII German sub up for sale in the Liverpool area, again POA.  You never know, they might want a quick sale...which could mean you get a quick sail too - sorry!, couldn't resist that one!

I bet the article in Nuclear Engineer had plenty of depth Ho Ho Ho!

I wonder how many model aircraft people have the full size version or model car people have the odd F1 cast off lerking in their garage!

I've been there,
add the licencing fee and the mooring cost and bi-annual docking for re bottoming-

 Nah! not going back

at least when I hit something or get hit I can fix it for a few quid, (mostly)

For those intrepid souls who do not wish to try the one to one scale boats because of creature comforts do what I did book yourself on a passenger ship and go for a real cruise all the creature comfots and the hardest thing you have to do in beckon the waiter for another drink or two..

I have owned three ' 1 Foot to the foot scale ' sailing boats and I can tell you that the fellow who likened sailing to being like ' Standing in the shower and flushing pound notes down the drain ' wasn't far wrong in his observation. Nowdays the pound coin would disappear even faster.

I havemodel boats that are 50 years old, still running and they cost hardly anything to run and enjoy...and give almost as much pleasure.

Apart from all that good luck ..enjoy your boating...every man to his own delights !

It's basically the same as everything else it has become more and more expensive to own any boat, 1:1 or model boat, so enjoy what ever sort you have .....

All true about the cost of 1:1 scale boats. But they do let you get pictures like this.

And when you are thrashing about in a 21 footer in a F5 in a Solent chop with the furling line wrapped around the forestay then I think you are entitled to reflect that you aren't QUITE ready for a place in a rest home yet!

Of course, as they say, the best bit about sailing is talking about it in the pub afterwards....  :)

I thought that was YOUR fault Richard. Isn't there a sign saying you aren't supposed to distract the driver?  :D

Nice pic of the Queen Mary. I've got a similar one with me standing in front of it in 2001 and another taken 40 years ago of me standing in front of the QM at Southampton. QM is unchanged, unfortuntately I'm not but I've still got all my hair!

Taken in 1946 Richard I think, a couple of years before I was born.

I stayed on her too in 2001. A wonderful experience. My wife had to drag me away weeping next morning to continue our trip. A couple of days later we had 9/11 while we were in San Diego. Instead of flying to Las Vegas for the trip home we ended up driving across the desert. Still managed to have a couple of chopper trips over the Grand Canyon and along the Strip though.

I thought you might want to see what can happen if you leave the helm to brew up. :'(
