Hello

I was just looking at the drg. for my boat, It has a plan view (from on top)  and a side elevation of the stbd. side, plus a few extra details. Can one assume that the doors, portholes etc shown in this view, will be repeated mirror image on the port side?
(within reason)

err, well I think that depends on the boat in question.

If you can tell us what it is?

If it is not symetrical it should tell you.  If it doesn't you have no other choice than to assume it is.

Plans are not infallable though and any other supporting information or photo's might help.

Hello ,

Its the HMS Bulldog, a Dave Metcalf hull, it came with a couple of good drgs. and I got some photos from Martin, but still plenty of room for error. On the other hand, I am building this boat for pleasure, not for exhibiting, so perhaps try hard, but don't worry too much!

Try tracking down some pictures on the Web - with luck you will find both port and starboard sides and can make a comparison. In many cases superstructure is not the same on both sides, and neither are the portholes in the hull!

Hannah's Ark Royal port side is totally different to the starboard side we did not find this out until Hannah researched it on the web (starboard side has 2 anchors and port side only 1!! and nearly all the cut outs in the hull are different).
It will pay to check it out on the internet if you can.

I think it is rare to find total symmetry on a ship. Internal positioning of (say) bathrooms, telephone exchanges, wiring/power lockers all sorts of stuff. Internal alleyways are fairly symmetrical in general (allowing for staircases and such) but as far as the external scuttles are concerned they could be anywhere...as long as they don't overlap 2 plates. Anyway, who is going to count and/or measure? If you don't really know then put them in the most pleasing positions! And THEN ask who can disagree with you.
