My boy just upgraded his TX to a Spektrum DX4C

At the same time he bought a couple of new Orange receivers (Ground) which he was told were definitely compatible.

They refuse to bind -- instead of light going solid it goes out.

Using the same receivers with his old DX3E they bind first time.

His Spektrum SR300 receiver binded first time with the new TX.


Anyone had this problem and found a solution or is it a case that the dealer gave misinformation, although the manual for the TX suggests they should work

Looks like you're not the only one having trouble binding an OrangeRX DSM2 RX to a DX4C TX


The DX4C is supposedly backward compatible with DSM2 (while using DSMR with their RXs) but it looks like Spektrum managed to kick the Chinese (or to be accurate: the other Chinese) out.


From what I see in the manual the protocol is supposed to be displayed during the binding process. What does it show ?

Hobby King state on their website that Orange ground receivers won't bind with aircraft transmitters. If the DX4C is for ground vehicles, then it ought to work. I'd get back to the dealer if I were you.

Cant see anything on the box or TX which says air or ground

The only possible clue is the RX which came with it was a SR410 - does SR stand for surface perhaps ?

Also the literature says  "The DX4C is built around exclusive Spektrum DSMR technology that allows it to be used with any type of surface application, including boats."

Apologies! My mistake I thought the DX4C was a "twin stick" type
I know the Orange 3CH Rx wont bind with a JR9303, DX6i, or DX7 (Have tried)


And yes SR is "Surface Radio/receiver"
Not sure why the orange ones wont bind.... We have about a dozen of them in our RC cars, bound to dx3r and dx3.0 controllers

This (the light going out) indicates that the bind process has actually begun. Some Orange RXs can take quite some time to complete the bind process (a couple of minutes or more).

Though I do wonder if Spektrum have shut out third party receivers some how…

We left the rx trying to bind for a good five minutes on a couple of occasions.

Looking around other forums this seems to be a common complaint with this TX and RX combination.

I contacted the dealer who advised they would work, and he came back quoting the Spektrum website description - I told him I dont accept that - I bought them in good faith and they dont work

Your contract is with the dealer, not the manufacturer, so t's up to the dealer to sort it out - sounds like a complete refund to me "Not fit for purpose".

I must admit my dx6i wouldn't  bind with an odd orange 615 rx , seemed to need to be about 6ft apart before they would then bind . Possibly just coincidence !!

I agree Robert - the fact he sold an item under the impression it would work is irrelevant it doesnt so he will need to reimburse me.

WIll have one further attempt to bind today from over 6 foot away - just incase - but not holding out much hope

The 3 ch ones work with some ground controllers (DX3.0 and Dx3S for sure as we use them in RC Cars)
