Sir Kay Minesweeper

Hi guys,
 please excuse my ignorance, could any one tell me on the sir Kay minesweeper what the ( wishbone shaped ) boom on the bow is called
and what it was used for ?

Hi John..............it was an acoustic hammer.........a device for sending acoustic "shockwaves" through the water when lowered into the sea forward of the stem post, to set off acoustic mines within a radius of the minesweeper. these trawlers weren't the only ships to be fitted with them, as they can be seen on paintings and photo's of ships in lead positions on convoy duties.
