Hi Mike
My advise would be to go ahead and get the kit, the instruction book in the kit will tell you exactly what running gear you need IE. Motor,  ESC amperage, and the size of the nycrome coupling, the 7.2 volt nimh battery can over 2000 mah if you want a longer running time but the higher the capacity the more expensive, there is plenty to be getting on with while you wait for the "bits" to come, preparing the hull etc. :-))

I was at Deans Marine just yesterday.... it was Ron's birthday.... but I didn't get offered any cake!  >>:-(

The extras are:

Black 400 motor - the motor to power the boat "Black 400" is the name of type of motor.
esc 1               - ESC = Electronic Speed Controller. Allows Remote / radio control of the boat speed, both ahead & astern.
coupling nycexl  - Flexible coupling, used between motor and prop shaft.
2000 ah battery nimh - Main power battery.

You will also need other bits and pieces, radio set, tools, glues, wire, paint, battery charger, etc. etc

Hi Mike.
Black 400 motor,  deans product / recommended motor  although others of a similar size could be used.
 ESC= Elctronic Speed Controller
nycexl coupling = deans own product to join motor to prop shaft although the most  common product is the Huco coupler.
2000 ah battery nimh = 2 amp / hour Nickel-Metal Hydride commonly called a race pack

Note that the coupling ends need to match the prop shaft and motor spindle diameters. Also they come with single and double joints. The double joints are more forgiving of slight motor/prop shaft misalignment.

You must have had a bad one, one of best couplings I've used.

Not the Hucos surely Martin?
I like Marks and I also have used Mobile Marine.
Not tried Deans.
Are we at cross purposes here?

Hi Mike

I'm guessing looking at the pictures next to the ones you're looking at the number indicates the amperage of the ESC eg ESC 3 means 3Amp.

Only a guess.

 Hi Mike.
I would say the 1 after esc means qty is one, as its a single shaft model. A 1 amp esc would not be large enough for the crash tender it would need more like 15- 20 amps size as its a model that should go up on the plane on the occassion as seen here.
