I've just been watching a film on some weird satellite tv channel, with the Ku Klux Klan in it...I think I should phone up and complain.

Here in Germany it is banned, for obvious reasons, so much so that Plastic Kits of Luftwaffe planes and other Military subjects, do not have it on the decal sheet, which I think is wrong as builders in other countries may want to depict the model as it really was and not Censored.
Strangely any Film of the Nazi times show it prominently, as do the Endless Documentaries about the War on TV. These always talk about the Nazi Forces or Navy or such, never the German, as though it was a different Nationality that did all the fighting!( and Atrocities)

To a degree it is the same here in the UK. For example, when something is said on TV or in books and magazines about events taking place in the (good old days) days of Empire and more recent events, it is always the British did that, the British army did this and how dreadful these British people were.

That is until I stop them, generally school children and teens, and ask just who do you think the nasty British people were? This generally pulls them up short and then it's erm, umm, ermm I don't know, will I say do you realise that these people demonising your close relatives, your grandparents and great grandparents. and changing history to suit their own purposes. This of course, in a lot of cases, goes in one ear and out the other but in some it does stick and makes them think, for a while at least.

Hello all, well I've had the outcome from the coooncil, apparently they decided not to uphold the complaint, but the fanny took it to a higher authority(there seems to be lots of them)and their decision is that the flag has to be covered,if not the member could be asked to leave the park and possibly prosecuted !.
That is bad enough, but my concern is,would there be the same outcome if an Arab complained about a U.S flag ?,or a Ukranian complaining about a Russian flag ?,in other words it could be the thin end etc.
I'm going to make some enquiries as to where it stands legally,if I can find someone interested, and try to appeal it.
I find it hard to understand that one person complaining about something I think is pretty trivial, brings the weight of the coooncil down on our hobby.
After all Prince Harry wore one, don't think he was threatened with a prosecution !.

You can possibly be asked to leave the park But I doubt very much you could be prosecuted, Sorry but I would put the boat in the water  as is.

I.e Ignore them..

let them ask you to leave the park..

Then get it in the paper..  or as Colin says below.

On what basis could it be prosecuted? In the UK you can see swastika on all sorts of media including films, TV, books etc. All of which are displayed as part of history and not subjected to petty censorship.

I think you should reply and enquire upon what legal basis would such a decision be justified. Call their bluff and state that you would be happy to challenge it in court, they will then back off as incurring court costs on a weak argument that is unlikely to be sustained is the last thing that local authorities want these days.

If it isnt stipulated in their Bylaws that you cannot fly an authentic flag on a model, then they dont have a leg to stand on and they cannot ban you from a public place (the park).

Check the Bylaws - they have to abide by them as well as the public!!!!

Apparently it is in contravention of rule 4.1 of the Management rules for public parks and green space for Edinburgh City coooncil quote;behaviour which causes(or in the opinion of a council official is likely to cause)annoyance ,offence, alarm or distress to any other park user.
I am reluctant to involve the club too much just now as we have had a tadoo with getting the pond cleared of Algie which involved the papers,it worked though,it did'nt go down too well with the coooncil, the parks did back us initially with this.
I am secretary, but as it's my boat I would like to keep the club involvement to the minimum just now,as I don't want the club to suffer on my account,no others have German boats.
I'll make some enquiries as to where I stand with this,if I make too much of this it might snowball and affect others.

PS - They wouldnt have like the display my father and I put on at the South West Model show earlier this year then.  Nearly 75% of the model boats on show were WWII German Kriegsmarine vessels - and ALL of them are accurate to the last degree....flags, swastikas 'n all!!!!!

In fact, our stand frontage, along the table edges, was decorated in the naval flags of the vessels modelled - including at least 3 that would offend your 'member of society'.

Absolutely NO-ONE made complaint during or after the 2 day show....

I would put a huge sticker on it that says Censored by XXX Council, then invite the press along to an event and wait until they ask the question......

Sail it with a paper tent over the top for the press in case the shape of a german boat might upset a member of the public (with the word censored written on the tent) just to prove how silly that would be. or send a complaint in to the council about any council member who drives a volkswagen ( because it was ordered by hitler to design a 'peoples car')

So in that statement, any person bringing half the Hovis factory  ( other brands are available ) to feed the wildlife in my opinion should be banned under article 4.1 as this would cause me great alarm and distress as bread in excess is not very good for birds.  :police: <*<

Are these byelaws posted in the park anywhere ?.

Just looking at the Air Museum in Edinburgh , lovely picture of a EF-Komet, even nicer picture on the tail.  :}
