Mode 1 and Mode 2 refers to the typical stick/channel assignment. It doesn't matter all that much, especially on an OpenTX transmitter.

The only physical difference is that the throttle stick will come with the return spring disabled. In mode 1, that's the right tick, in mode 2 that's the left stick. But it can be changed later on.

"No module" means that there's no RF module. The transmitter is hence not much of a transmitter. You need to purchase a TX module (JR form factor) that will encode the PPM signal to a 2.4Ghz RF signal. There are various protocols and frequencies: 2.4Ghz Spektrum DSM2/DSMX, 433Mhz OpenLRS, 2.4Ghz FrSky ACCST, ...

If you already own a bunch of 2.4Ghz receivers, you could of course go for an RF module that uses the same frequency/protocol to reuse them.

No module as yet would the frsky module be a good bet?

also when buying from hobbyking and its only available from international warehouse do you get stuck with import duties and extra carriage ?

Sometimes you can get away without paying any duties, but you probably would have to.

For a half decent TX/RX combo at a good price I'd recommend a Planet T5, though additional receivers are quite expensive compared to others at £16. I think a TX/RX is around £50 for the Planet.
Or for a bit more, you can get a spectrum DX6-i, think they're available for around £70, and receivers can be had from hobbyking for £4-£5 each, depending on exchange rates.

mode 2 is the generally accepted format here in uk, that's throttle on left stick, what ever rc discipline. Mode 1 tends to be USA, throttle on right. Most transmitters will have the throttle un sprung, so low sick will be zero throttle, with rc aircraft you obviously don't have reverse, and the other stick has sprung to centre  for other channels.

If your boat has reverse, you will need to have a sprung throttle. Lets assume its a simple operation you need, mode 2, throttle on left, up/down, there is now no requirement for the left/.right channel. On the other stick you will have your rudder, no need for the up/down on that stick, with most transmitters you can open the back, remove the spring assembly. and reverse it over to the throttle stick, so now that's sprung :-)) I have done this pn planet t5, turboxrix and flysky, DX6i was more complicated but can be done. I made up a few dics that went behind the sticks with slots that only allow the direction of travel I wanted .
Hope that helps!

Interesting,...

Here on the west coast of the United States, I don't know anyone that uses Mode 1.
All my throttles and those that I know have a left throttle stick.
