Painting Cutty Sark
« on: October 12, 2014, 12:39:39 pm »

The Billings Boat model came with a paint pallet however at the time (1976) there probably wasn't the variety of choices that we have today. The pallet looks like a water paint???

What type of paint should I use on a wood model---this would apply to any of the wooden tall ship models I presume. There is a brand of paint called Testor and it is available both in Enamel and Acyrl. What would the community suggest

Thanks, Mike

Enamels give a more durable finish, however acrylics are easier to work with.

Somewhere I have a paint conversion chart, that gives the equivalents for all the BB colours

If you find that chart I would be most appreciative.
The Billings Boat instructions call for #5 Brown, #15 Gold, #1 White and #11 Black and refer to their "painting box". I have kept the model in good condition all these years including the brass fittings kit but I can't find where Billings provided the paint in the original kit

Thanks for taking the time to reply,
Cheers, Mike
