Marx decaperm worth anything?
« on: October 23, 2014, 12:24:36 pm »

I've discovered one of these in a boat of recently bought (mainly for the f14 and decoder). I've seen the retail on these is crazy high but what sort of used value do they have? Can't seem to find much history on eBay to go off.

Stick it on at a tenner. You'll sell it eventually - you might even get a stampede if you're lucky! I won't be bidding.

Yes, but you'll get little interest if the starting price is too high. Someone is bound to be interested at £10 and the chances are that an early bid at that level will start a slow bidding war or a frenzy at the end. My £15 roof box eventually went for £180 while my £25 shed fetched £610, yet when I asked £300 for a Parat kit with 2 x VS drives, fittings, servos, batteries etc etc (£600+ cost) I only just got it.
Anyway, the Decaperm is very noisy and inefficient c/w most modern motors. I wouldn't fit one in a model even it were given to me free........................
I'd stick it on E-Bay for a tenner!  %)

Hi Inertia, I beg to differ, the decaperm is a nice motor with an efficiency of over 70% used in optimum circumstances. The ones I have are nice and quiet (but not currently in use) and I would think £30 was about right.
I am just fitting an old version of its' big brother in a restoration.

I usually follow model motor sales on ebay and as has been said there is usually a bidding frenzy at the end.

Only my opinion, Roy. Maybe yours are in better nick than the ones I've seen (and heard).
If the motor is worth £30 then someone will bid that price. On the other hand, if the price starts at £30 then many could be put off bidding, thinking that it will go much higher than it's actually worth. Who knows? E-Bay is an auction, after all.
For a cash sale (e.g. through Mayhem) then it's anyone's guess. Would you buy it at £30? Someone might............. 8)

One thing is for sure; anyone who is happy to pay £142 for a new one deserves to be parted with his money.

Hi Inertia, you are right, £142 is a crazy price.
I was watching on ebay a Dumas motor (badged Pittman, I am informed) for sale, stayed at 99p for 5 days then went for £24.70 + £4 p&p in the last few hours.  That was still cheaper than a shop advertized one.

I have a couple of Dcaperms just waiting for the boat to be built!  I also have many Monoperms waiting to be let loose.
I think I paid £2 each for the decaperms, not much more for quite a lot of Monoperms, Supers, including a Hectoperm.  About £40 in all,  I went out that same afternoon and sold the Hectoperm for £50 and he was pleased to get it!

Some of my better motors have been recycled.  I got several Pittman motors from scrapped computer tape decks maybe 25+ years ago and they run very nicely.
I think I have enough motors to see me out now.
regards Roy
