Outboard motors...
« on: November 12, 2014, 02:48:01 pm »

Chaps, are model outboard motors still available, does anyone know? I'm looking for 540 sized one, around...1/8th-1/6th scale?

Any ideas, anybody?

More on the scale side or more on the performance side ?

I recently got this one from TFL through HobbyKing: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__22953__Sprint_F3_Tunnel_Hull_Outboard_Motor_Set.html

Quite popular among the 1:5.2 VO crowd in Germany and the Netherlands. It seems the bronze bushing should be changed by a teflon-metal one but appart from this it seems pretty good and very cheap.

They also recently added this one but no reviews on it yet: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__66147__CNC_Aluminum_Outboard_Style_Boat_Drive_w_2630kv_Motor.html

Bob...excellent, well done that man! They will do a treat.

Calimero...a bit too rapid for what I need, but thank you anyway.

Much appreciated, gentlemen...

Bob

I got some of these some time ago from a hobbies site for about £5 each. You need to be aware they are a pod type motor that runs of two AA battery's. The one's I got were not very well sealed and they got water in the motor and soon stopped working.

I ended up building my own http://www.lifeboatmodels.co.uk/atlantic.htm http://www.lifeboatmodels.co.uk/atlanticmotors.htm http://www.lifeboatmodels.co.uk/atlanticmotors2.htm http://www.lifeboatmodels.co.uk/atlanticrebuild.htm

The last page is from when I rebuit them with Brushless motors.

Whilst waiting on the postman, I thought I have a play with the outboards. For what they are, they are surprisingly pokey, so I think I'm on a winner here.

The 'Action Force' stickers will have to come off though, I've done one, looks a whole lot better. On my little fishing dingy I did many moons ago, I converted the outboard to run on a separate battery pack with an Action Electronics mini esc tucked away out of sight, so I think that's what I'll be doing with these.

I think I'll order some and we can give them a go.
Im sure I can find a use for them if the Toybota doesn't pan out

just a thought you could probably fit the esc in the battery compartment on top of the motors
