Speedline 16th Severn
« on: November 16, 2014, 09:37:52 am »

Gents,
I am currently building a Severn and about to fit the bolt heads. I tried to glue them with super glue and made a pigs ear of it on the front hatch so time for a repaint.
Could anyone suggest what adhesive to use and is there a knack to what method I need to us to do it.
Regards

well, using superglue is the normal practice, but how you use it is the key...straight from the tube is useless on such small items..........

try getting a cocktail stick and squirt a little superglue ( cyano) at a time onto a used top of a margarine lid.

use the cocktail stick to put a tiny amount onto the exact place you need it ( on the boat, not the bolt head) and then add the bolt head to the boat with a pair of long nose tweezers, using another dry cocktail stick (smothered in Vaseline and wiped clean to stop the cyano sticking) to hold the head in place whilst withdrawing the tweezers. give the dry cocktail stick a wipe after each application

It's a long and laborious process but you end up with a good finish with no extra cyano cluttering the place.

Hi, I glued them on with Glue and Glace this will not harm the paint work and will dry clear. use the same process with the cocktail stick.
To pick the heads up just wet the end off another stick then place on to hole. make sure you have something to catch them if they fall off the end.
It does take time so Patience is needed. hope this helps
