Esmeralda, a lady with a dark past
« on: November 18, 2014, 09:18:08 am »

Hello All, Last week I collected a model of the Chilean Navy training ship Esmeralda from a very nice guy in Sussex. She was converted from a static model to a radio control by the seller. I was hoping to get her on the water last Sunday but things did not work out that way. I have tried to find out where the static model originates from but have not found a positive answer. It is not the mini craft model as she is 1 metre long. The searching has also thrown up some very interesting history for the real ship. Hopefully I will sail her next Sunday. Cheers, Graham

 Hi.
Esmerelda is the sister ship  to the Spanish JS Elcano.  Possibly Billings or Artesania latina for a kit.

Hi Graham - eyes nearly fell out my head when I saw my old 'Esmeralda'. I told you that she looked good on the water.   :-))
All the best,
Bob.

That looks stunning, I aspire to building something as beautiful as "Esmeralda" but that is a long long way off.

Hi Merseyferry, The real ship is listed as being 113m long and this model is about 1m so a rough scale would be 100:1. As such your suggestion of adding some crew is a distinct possibility and I usually try to do this. Thanks for the prompt. Cheers Graham. :-))
