Clear Plastic for Glazing
« on: November 26, 2014, 09:47:30 am »

HI fellow members has we approach the festive season Christmas cards will be in abundance. I was asked yesterday by the boss if these containers would be use full for my model building. Some Christmas  cards come in clear plastic boxes these are ideal for glazing your models better than them going in the bin.  :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) ;)

You can also use the clear tops that come on some kitchen foods like spreads and yoghurts.

Never had a problem. Like you say depends on what you are building and what results you want. But for most models it should be fine.

The problem with using transparent packaging is that it is often brittle and degrades over a period in sunlight (or any kind of daylight). It would be disappointing to build it in and then discover after a year or so that it has gone yellow or fogged. I think some of it is intended to be biodegradable these days. I have tried using the boxes to store stuff in but usually find that they splinter after a year or so.

Some of the plastic packaging is more durable but I'm not sure how you tell this from the more fragile stuff.

HI Colin that's a chance I will take the stuff we get locally is always marked and scratched. I do  not wish to make any one use this material and hope this post does not end being a bun fight.
