Microscope slides? Like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-New-Glass-24x50mm-Coverslips-for-Microscope-Slides-/330462616636 .  No personal experience of them but they look like they might suit.

I can see a problem using glass, how are you going to shape it for anything other than square or rectangular windows? Then there is the safety angle if any of it breaks at lakeside- you may be ok with a cut finger, but what about if anyone else cuts themselves? could be a where theres blame theres a claim scenario!

I think Irishcarguy was trying to use slides and made a remark that the were difficult to cut . Maby a diamond wheel in the Dremmel (other multi toolbars available) . Why I say this I wanted to cut some glass from some old double glazeing which was toughend and would score with the glass diamond but would not break following the line .So I tried the diamond blade tiles saw bench with water lube fed the glass very slow and it worked Ok

yeh you cannot score and fracture toughened glass down a line. It is pre-cut before its toughened.

i don't know if they are toughened or not. I doubt it. I was just saying to previous comment about trying to score toughened glass.

There is nothing to beat real glass for a realistic appearance if you can get it to fit.

i would doubt microscope glass is toughened. No real need for it to be toughened. Would cost to much aswell.

Well the wheel never stops turning. I raised the same question a long time ago. Most said it was not possible, but Colin thought it could be done. Well been stubborn Irish I did buy slide glass on EBay & I also used the glass from photographic slides from my days doing slide shows, they were made in the USA by a company named WESS slide mounts. After a bit of trial & error I found I could cut it easy & grind the edges as well with the diamond wheel of a Dremel. How did I do it, well I carefully clamped the glass on to a piece of plywood fixed on my bench with an overhang(please wear goggles because you will break some(not as many as you would think if you are careful) Don't squeeze the clamp too tight & make sure that it is spotless clean under the glass, otherwise you will crack it( after you crack a few you will learn quick)You can with care even do curves. I was working on a rig to hold the glass better but I got very sick. I had done nearly all the windows of my Smit Nederland at that time. The breakage got less & less with practice & by taking my time. I wish I knew how to put some photos on here but that I have not mastered yet. When in place you can clean them with glass cleaner & a Q tip.Colin is right the glass looks much better than plastic. You can also glue the glass pieces together edge to edge with epoxy & it is hard to see if you need a bigger piece than the slide glass is. So have a go , you will be happy you did. Mick B.

I have used diamond core bits to drill an aquarium I have at home which I was going to set up for dart frogs. As you say take ur time keep it wet and let the diamond do the work without any pressure on it. It cuts (wears) its way through the 6mm glass relatively quickly once its got itself started.
