Hope you don't get stung like my pal and I on your first visit to the Corporals mess, custom is in our lot (airborne) that the new Lance Corporals having been promoted buy the beer on their first visit to the mess and when we entered the hallowed walls you could not move even the Ghost of Christmas past was there! Good luck you are now one of the official piggies in the middle i.e. the rankers and the Senior NCO's.

Don't tell me you've forgotten my surname! I know its almost as comon as Jones but its not!!!

Ironically my mate in the same section is called Dave Jones and he has been promoted too (and he has had all the Dad's Army puns thrown at him already!

Peter- Unfortunately the Corporal Messes were closed down in the RAF long before I joined up, not even a Corporal's Club

Hi guys

I know I've been quiet recently but I've been on a lot of courses for my recent promotion and I'm signing off the forum for a little while as I'm off to a hot dry island in the Med until X-mas, anyone who's been following my build of HMS Humber it will on display at Deans Open Days and at Warwick almost complete!
Unfortunately I can't do a daily blog like my falkland island diary a few years back but hopefully I'll have some good pictures of anything boaty I come across!

Have a good tour Nick. Can't you take any bits to work on while you are away? I know of one customer of ours (admittedly he models wargames forces in 1:300th scale) orders a load of stuff that he takes with him to make and paint while he is out.

And I'm alive and kicking in Cyprus. Thanks for all the support and boy is it hot! I mean really hot!
Took us about four and a half hours to get here just so we can live in a transit block where the air conditioning is just a ceiling fan. Whilst we were waiting for the management to sort themselves out we went to Akrotiri Beach Club, we started walking in 35 degree C heat thinking it wasn't that far and turned out when we got picked up we had only got half way and we had been walking for an hour in flip-flops! Lovely beach and views from the bar, probably the only time we will get there but it was a nice afternoon off before the onslaught later this week.

Oh just been told that we are now moving blocks again where we have air conditioning units that aren't just fans- yay!

Whats this "air conditioning"? does that mean you get a flap in the tent like we had. Only joking enjoy but make sure you get enough salt and water (Lager doesn't count!).

Was there not too long ago Nick, we flew in to Akrotiri.
Down to the docks and were warned by agent NOT to go out of the port and turn right.

Hiya guys

Just to let you know that its still hot here!

We had fog yesterday and looks like we are going to get a sand storm from the Middle East sometime tomorrow.
The Lightning and Whirlwind gate guardians are still in pretty good condition and look shiny in the sun.
Haven't seen any pink storks yet, we haven't been allowed off camp since we arrived due to the strikes by the Cypriots and Greeks but hopefully we'll get the chance soon.
We've been told that our block is the best on camp with a proper air con unit in each room with black out blinds because we are working 12 hour days we are working longer hours than everyone else at Akrotiri out in the heat so they gave us the best!
Think I've acclimatised to the heat now, I don't sweat any where near as much as I got off the jet and I've lost some weight probably due to dehydration!
Our main party arrives soon so we'll take them out for a drink tonight before the onslaught of brief after brief after brief!

Hi everyone

Sorry for the lack of replies on my behalf but amongst other things the WiFi went down for almost a week!
The temperature has either cooled down or I've acclimatised to it! Due to the heat, 12 hour continuous shifts and the poor quality of food rations at night I've lost almost a stone in weight!, well I say poor quality but I'd probably mean to say poor quality choices by the chefs in the mess- bit fed up of pasta carbonara by now!
It became a bit of a sore point that all the corporals complained to the management about it! Hopefully the mess will change their menu tonight!
