which motor for 1/12 cygnus
« on: December 14, 2014, 12:33:01 am »

Evening all, what is an ideal motor for a 1/12 Cygnus sf33, it came with a car fan motor but is quite bulky. Any help or advice is welcome

This is a relatively slow and sedate model, albeit with a wide beam. I'd suggest one of these, with a 50 - 60mm prop, on 12 volts http://www.jotika-ltd.com/Pages/1024768/Fittings/CEM900T.htm

If the motor fitted does the job, why change it?
The Cygnus hull has plenty of room and the guy
that built it originally was probably happy with
the motor ha had fitted.
Dave's recommendation is much better than
your option if you really need to change.

Its a kit I brought myself so it currently has no motor in it, that's why I'm after a recommendation

Your first post said it had a car fan Moro
If you bought the kit from Andy Griggs  at
Models by design he would have recommended
a motor.

I should have made it clearer, the motor I have need to be mounted in a bulkhead and I not very good working with wood, so I was after a suitable motor that I could use with a Moto mount. Sorry for not explaining it properly

So would that motor that you recommend be better than the car fan motor choice.

Hi Dave, I already have the car fan motor supplied by Andy but I'm struggling with wooden bulkhead to mount the motor, that's why I was looking into normal motors that I could mount on a metal mount

It is not the Cygnus Revenge City Trawler has I think you are thinking of the Cygnus Revenge which is a total different kettle of fish

It's the cygnus sf33 I'm 'trying' to build hehe. I regret taking on such a big boat to build with my skill level

Hi everyone, I have used a fan motor and it gives authentic scale speed.
I run it on a 6V 10Ah lead acid battery and it lasts all day.

Here is what my almost finished model looks like.
All the lights work, now has a sound unit fitted.
There is furniture inside the wheel house along with a 1/12th scale working compass and radar screens.
Working nights at the moment but when I get change I will take a picture of the almost finished boat and post it.
