My Hobbies
« on: January 14, 2015, 11:22:12 pm »

Hey all, i mainly fly Quadcopters FPV style, have 6 at the moment, micro up to a quite large one, i like doing aerial filming and of course proximity flying, i also do a hell of a lot of Metal Detecting, i found a Gold Roman Ring last year which was declared Treasure, my local Museum in Carlisle (Tullie House) recently aquired the ring to put on display, How cool is that? These are my main 2 hobbies, now looking into river searching using a sub of some type. :)

Hi Cobs,

Same as that...I have two quads at present, a DJi Phantom with a Turnigy ActionCam HD camera, and a UDi 829a with the stock camera. The Turnigy camera also fits my Neptune DSRV, same mounts,  takes less than a minute to swap from quad to sub.

Careful using a sub in a river...I lost a submersible in a local river, and despite the best efforts of the local diving club, it was never found.

Hi Rich,

I have a Ladybird which im about to FPV for indoors, a ZMR250 for speed and thrills (4s), a Phantom 1 which is used a lot in my vids, just bought a Phantom 2 with H3-3D Gimbal to replace my P1, a large custom built quad that can fly for around 45mins with gimbal onboard and a 3 legged Hubsan somewhere lol.  I use 3 Mobius cams and a GoPro3+Black on various quads / Metal Detectors.

Yeh im kinda thinkin now what do i need to navigate rivers, think the SB1 would need some upgrade for sure ... or choose calm spots which there are many in local rivers, im not planning on serious depth, it would be visible at all times (plus i dont mind getting wet) :)

My first idea mind was a boat with a lowerable cradle with my Gopro on

My Neptune is pretty stock, apart from the upgraded six blade prop and a few led's here and there. There's not really a lot you need to do to them, but one good plan is to change the battery from the supplied 12v  2000a/h lead acid to either a decent lipo or a nimh pack. You may find a little trimming of the battery tray is needed to accomodate the different batteries, but apart from that, the Neptune is a great little boat. This is my third one, I got this one from Hobby Stores in Norwich.

The camera fits perfectly in the nose cone, just two holes to drill through the end cap and that's it...job done.

It looks like its made for it, what a neat fit, What environments have you used it in? Have you any recordings at all? Sorry for the questions Rich, just doing my homework, they seem the right vehicle for what i want to try, an underwater camera platform :)

Hi Frank,

Thats a very good idea with the string mate ... just hope i dont have to pull it back with a Pike attached lol  %%

Thanks for the link, i did look around at a few vids and even ROVs which were too pricey for me, better getting first hand info from a forum i thought  :}
