« on: January 21, 2015, 07:37:31 pm »

Is there anyone on the forum that can advise me on how to make a working trawl winch to pull the net up onto a drum. Cheers

Martin Holst has been using continuous rotation servos, or modifying high torque servos so that
they will continuously rotate, to run his trawl doors, and net winch. He mounts them off to one
side of the winch, or inside a deck house against the winch spools.

Servos are mounted to the spools from inside the superstructure.

You could make the spools out of dowels and plate.
The plates could be pvc or styrene sheet, or perspex.
Brass dowel and sheet would work also.
Just use the big round circular servo "arm" and screw it to the outside of your
spool using a few self tapping screws.  Then it will mount to your continuous rotation servo.

I have used G scale railroad wheels as spool sides before.
I did, however, do a bit of extra shaping on the lathe though.

For the hand winch I used a wood dowel and a styrene plate cut using a compass cutter.

And did a similar spool half for the Patterson upright winch.

I suppose I could, shipping might be a bit spendy from the states though.

Them are some heavy duty spools you have pictured.
You sure there isn't someone down the street from you able to build up what you need? %)

What dimensions?
Did you want brass?
Is perspex/acrylic okay?
Just the spools?
