« on: May 02, 2015, 10:42:43 am »

Anyone know of a source for self adhesive brass letters/numbers, about 1/2"-3/4" high? As shown in the attached pic..

Cheers guys,

I've seen Brass etched letters at Cornwall Model Boats and the Model Dockyard but I don't know how big they are.  You could try Scale Link, they have a lot of odd Photo-etch frets for O gauge trains or Dolls house suppliers may have them too.

Thanks again,

Couldn't find brass letters of the right height, but I did find gold coloured plastic lettering in the right size. By the time they are fixed in place and a drop of weathering over them, they will be spot on.

Thanks again..

before you dive in Rich, can only find 2 period photos where an x craft carries a number one is of xe8 the other is HMS Stickleback and that number is in roman numerals.

On a covert mission a nice shiny brass number would stick out
like a sore thumb.
Why bother painting boats black?

Very true gents...but, I believe that some X craft carried a number on a removable metal plate whilst in dock or on exercises. I remember seeing it somewhere, but now I need it, I'm dammed if I can find it. I know I've got it somewhere, the question is...where?

Don't forget that Stickleback class remained in service after the war had ended and there's never been a Buffer that didn't like to see someone polishing brass work!

Don't think the ship's company on an X craft would include a Buffer. :(( :((
