Currently and at this time of the year I think that the Flying Bricks or potential  ( Peking Duck  !!) are more of a hazard to boats minding their own business  :} .. as the Drakes chase the Ducks around the pond.

I still think it is worth a formal request to discuss a licence might work, build up a list of similar sites used by other clubs elsewhere

Hi All
We have a speed limit on the pond we use of 10 mph and that stops the super fast electrics.
That means the scale and sail boats are fine , talk to the council as a club and say that
is the plan to protect the wild life.
Ask them to put up signs saying No IC or fast electrics and work with them to solve the issue rather than
having a go at them.

Hello all,
I live in flintshire and am new to model boating, having recently finished my first build I have been looking around for a local place to sail, I contacted the council and asked which pool ( of many ) is model sailing permissible, seems that every good size pool in our locality are leased to this fishing club, that fishing club so effectively none, to be honest the chap dealing with my query did hunt around and found two possible pools that I could use, and suggested that I should take a look.
Only one of the two has realistic access, and is very small but usable, at least he tried.
A colleague in work said that he has seen boats being sailed on a pool in Buckley called the trapp, I took a look and the pool is massive, an old quarry! whilest taking a look a fisherman on the pool side asked "looking to join the fishing club"? I told him of the purpose of my visit, his demeanor changed "WE don't allow any craft on the water, the club own the water so no you cant"
How can a club own the water on public land!
I found a copy of the bylaws on the internet and it clearly states that model boating is allowed in designated areas, I am now going to contact Flinshire council for clarification.

I find it unlikely that actually "own" the lake, they may have permission to use it, maybe even for exclusive use, but I would be very surprised if they actually own it.
You are taking the correct route and if you do find you can use your model boat on that water, I would suggest asking for written confirmation and keep a copy with you when you sail, just in case.

It is my understanding that a local council requires a bye-law in order to 'ban' anything. Those affected by this notice need to be asking which bye-law applies to this notice that has appeared.

Does anyone else find it slightly perverse that, in so many  threads similar to this one, the OP makes the one post and is then never heard from again? I can't fathom why someone would seek opinions or advice and not respond to helpful replies.

Thanks for the info and advice gents, seems that the bylaws were altered in 2013, the pool is leased to the fishing club and they have control, end of story, the second pool is wildlife protected so no nothing, the last pool has a designated model sailing  area according to the bylaws but this has never been designated!!
The gent dealing with my query to be honest is very helpfull and has said that he will request that the area be designated at the next parks steering committee meeting, the council want their amenities used more so this would be a good addition.
Will keep you posted.
