A TRIBUTE TO MY GRANDFATHER.
« on: April 13, 2015, 03:11:06 pm »

This is an Airfix 1/76 scale Austin A2 ambulance in desert scheme (North Africa). My Grandfather was a senior medic and drove around in one of these, he was shot at, captured and released and all with just a red-cross armband and an aid kit.

Not an easy kit for crampy, shaky old hands and ailing eyes but I have done my best in this scale...so small!

Don't run yourself down you've done a GREAT job of it he'd be very proud of what you've done most of us can build a kit but not all can make it look real like you have.

Eddiesolo,

Great model. Well done.

What colour is the body painted?

Is it a Khaki Olive Drab?

What colour and manufacturer of paint?

I have been trying to find a particular tone of Khaki Olive Drab and this looks to be close.

Thank You.

No problems Howard, glad you like it, at 3 inch long, 1 inch wide and 1.5 inches high it took me two days to gt the think together lol. Nearly crushed the chassis in my sausage fingers  :D

I normally mix some Vallejo desert yellow: 70263 IIRC with some beige and green to get the colour. Unfortunately, I have run out and had a rattle can of enamel beige that looked great-got it from Boyes stores. One applied over a coat primer I flattened it by using a soft toothbrush, just gives it that worn look.

Glad you like it Rick.

Very nice model! My Dad drove a Wireless Truck in the Western Desert and I reckon you have really captured the character of the ambulance.
