Boat recovery - The Model Steamer Club
« on: April 24, 2015, 11:10:18 am »

Last September, while sailing at Rouken Glen in fairly windy conditions, David's wee fishing trawler was caught by a sudden gust, started shipping water and then disappeared beneath the water.

At the time, the pond was pretty weeded and had much algae and Tom in the rescue boat was completely unable to see much below the surface, never mind all the way to the bottom. It was a rather disconsolate group of boaters left standing around offering sympathy and regarding their own still afloat boats with a sense of 'there but for the grace of God'.

Fast forward to last Saturday, 18th, and the Model Steamer Club's very successful open day sail in superb conditions and as the show closed, the rescue boat was deployed again and Andrew, club president, set sail. The water was very clear, but locating the exact site proved time consuming. However part of a 'boat like shape' was spotted on the bottom. However, salvage proved tricky due to wind blowing the rescue boat off location and the stirring up of mud during attempts to probe down to the model. Eventually the attempt was abandoned.

However, perseverance pays off, and Andrew and David returned through the week to try again....

With success !!!

Hopefully, it will clean up and be sailing again soon.

All the best
Sandy
