JP Speed Controllers

  i am in the process of building a speedline 1/16 severn life boat and thinking of buying 2 50amp JP Speed Controllers  has anyone had any experince of these,  reliability  ect. Also advice on suitable motors, i am going for brushed, geared or not? prop size is 60mm.

60mm props sounds a trifle OTT for a 1/16 Severn. If that's the size you want to use then I think you'll need to go brushless (or geared-brushed at the very least). More usual size would be 40mm 4-blade. There's a wiring diagram for the "Model Slipway Tamar with 12v supply" if you scroll down from the top of this page. This would also suit the Severn. You can omit the bow thruster and engine sound unit. http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/ms.php
'A Model World' stocks the 12v Speed 700 motors while the ACTion units come from Component Shop. There is a suspicion that the continuous current rating of the JP speed controllers is in Chinese amps, which are much smaller than anyone else's. Needless to say there are some folk who've never had a moment's problem with them while others wouldn't use them for ballast.

HI mate


I have been using the same ESC you mention ecept they are direct from china, (ebay) £18, i have not had any problems but as DM said only load them to about a quater power, 12 - 15 amps, not a real problem with a scale boat, many available but some are forward only, read the write up.
