red and green

I hope this is not a foolish question knowing I will need to learn the terms in boating what side left or right if a tug is moving forwards are the navigation (red and green)  lights on dose this change if the tug is moving in reverse .
Are there two sets of lights for both direction.

looking towards the bow from the wheelhouse  Red is on the left and Green on the right...........and it doesn't matter whether she is towing fore back left or right, those lights don't change........only change when such as a double ended ferry is operating do they have vice versa lights fore and aft of the wheel house and then when steaming about ( in effect in reverse). the other ones are turned off and the rear ones turned on and still show left to red and right to green.

Some tugs that can have pusher arms fitted on the stern
can be fitted with an extra set of steaming lights.
All depends on what you are building.

Some tugs (Voith Water Tractors for example) have two sets of light as they usually operate in reverse while sailing "forward".

But on "classic" tugs, there's usually only a single set of lights.

Hello. I built one of the Isle of Man ferries and she had the whole of the nav lights configured so show a true ahead sailing sequence and reversed as she did whilst she was going astern up Belfast Lough or the river to the berth at Dublin, this meant the mast head lights had to show the required height difference, also as on the plans a light on the forepeak was listed as the astern light, this acted as the proper astern light whilst going astern, I wired mine so they all acted on complete separate circuits and could when needed be changed by radio controlled switch, this way they could be changed while afloat. The voith tug parat has two sets of lights for ahead and astern. I ran fiver optic lines to each set and used one lamp. The fibres were Bunched into two groups. The ahead astern servo rod moved the lamp user the bunches so that when going ahead light went to the ahead nave lamps and VCR versa.
