NMM Dark Biter
« on: July 23, 2015, 09:59:50 pm »

A friend has built a very tidy NMM Dark Biter.
It has twin  Graupner size 600 Chinese copies and twin ESC's rated at 60amp each.
The trouble is he has just burnt out his third ESC on one side.
I have suggested perhaps he should try a Water Cooled Brushless Outrunner outfit (motor & ESC) as sold by HobbyKing.
None of us have tried Brushless before and therefore a trifle ignorant.
Please can anyone experienced with brushless suggest a suitable Battery/ESC/Motor combination from Hobby King or alternative supplier.
Thanks.

Not brushless but do the Motors have fans inside the case and what voltage are they running on?

Bob, thanks for your reply.
The motors do have internal fans the voltage used is 9.6v but the current pulled under load is 30amps and 10 amps without a load.
The ESC's are nominally rated at 100amps but still burnt out but strangely only on the left hand side.

What are the dimensions of the Biter? This information will help Mayhemmers to advise. The Dark Class boats used Napier Deltic diesels and had a good turn of speed.

It could be that the motors are at fault. There is a thread on these motors somewhere as on anything above 6 volts will pull stupid currents.
I would have thought 2 x Mabucci 550's would have her running nicely without stupid current draw.
