A question of scale.
« on: February 25, 2016, 10:19:40 pm »

Hi folks,   building a  PCF Swift Patrol type boat sort of scratch built. The Deans Marine kit is 1/24 scale and the hull length is 604mm.  The hull i am using is ( as i already have it and will build my own cabin etc )  520mm long,  so the question is what scale am i building at so i know what scale to go for in relation to weapons, guns and figures etc.  I know there are a lot of 1/35 Tamiya type figures and weapons you can get but i am only guessing at 1/35 as a scale and you guys will have a better answer.   Regards, Dave ( still not done )

It will be 1/28 rounded to the nearest whole number (604 x 24)/520 = 27.8

Good Luck

Hi dave
about 1:28
604mm * 24 = 14.49 Meters . So 14.49m / .52m = 27.85

1:35 figures on a 1:28 scale model will be about 20% small - a 6 foot guy will appear to be about 5 foot.  This is fairly acceptable with figures because people do come in various sizes, but doesn't work as well with fittings like weapons.
Or create a model of the little known 69 foot patrol boat.
