I received a crane this morning from Bob, supposedly the same scale as my Atlantic tug. What do you reckon, guys...looks a bit oversize to me, I could remake the base so it would fit better, but I'm not sure.

Looks too big to me, I took it off a Nangie which is a little bigger than yours as it looked too big.

I was thinking of lowering it slightly, but now I'm not sure. Either that or I build another bigger tug...

And no, it doesn't fit the Motorflote....but it may be ok on the lighter.

Now looks less of a tug, more of a general workboat...which can't be too bad...too many tugs already

I think for your tug it does not matter because it's not an exact copy. It goes very well. Changes nothing.

I like the title ''work boat'', Skip...sounds better than a common or garden tug. I shall now call my boat a ''heavy lift work boat''...or a ''work boat with heavy lift capabilities''.

Hi Rich,
I think the crane is too big, hard to tell from a photo but it looks as if the jib would be almost as long as the boat when fully extended. I would think its an awful lot of work to alter the crane so the size looks right. I'm sure you will come up with something, keep us all posted.

Two suggestions..decompression chamber on the starboard side, proper diving/rescue/work boat...or cherry picker basket on the end of the crane for washing windows on oil rigs

I could give a few reasons but basically in real life I very much doubt anything that big would be installed on that boat.
It's not a case of the scale being wrong, simply that the prototype crane would be for a much larger vessel. Bit like putting truck wheels on a small car.

Definitely too big, look at the ring bolts. Those bolt heads around the circumference of the pivot wheel, they should be around 2 inches in diameter in real life. So imagine the size of your crewmans hand and compare it to the size of the boltheads/nuts.

You need to build another tug for it.

Thank you kindly, gentlemen, I appreciate all your comments. However, the problem has been solved for me...I knew my hands were bad today, but I didn't realise quite how bad they were until I picked the crane up...and promptly dropped it. It hit the side of my workbench during it's fall, and disintegrated into pieces as it hit the floor.

I didn't swear (believe that, and you'll believe that the world is square) and so the crane has now been filed under B1N...sorry Bob.

Thanks anyways, guys...I am now in full sulk mode.

I've donated the remains to Ian (IanPAL) he's going to repair it and fit it to his coaster, so all is not wasted.

Oh, good. I was thinking it would be a waste to bin something that had probably just reverted to its original kit form. It is the MS kit though they don't seem to list it anymore. I got mine from a trader at a show a few years ago (might have been Mac's even) and I think it was about £15.

Todays flavour of the month is one at 1:72 scale so those bits made it smaller.
