Toy Collectors Fair NEC 21st June - Puzzled
« on: June 22, 2015, 11:53:15 am »

We went along to the Toy Collectors Fair at the NEC yesterday to have a look around and we were very puzzled at what wasn't there more than what was there.

There were lots of stalls with Dinky/Matchbox models, lots with model railway engines & carriages and lots of stalls selling die-cast model trucks.
There was hardly any Lego, soft toys, radio-controlled models, Airfix-type plastic models, no model planes or model boats, no RC cars, no doll's houses etc. it was quite strange.

I really didn't understand the model articulated trucks - they are mostly quite large models - maybe 1/32 or possibly 1/24 or a bit bigger - but they are almost all the same basic model truck cab & trailer but with many, many different liveries representing different companies. There were lots of stalls selling them - all the same manufacturer's type. These are not motorised, they are just static models.

They seemed too big and too expensive to be able to collect lots of them so can someone enlighten me on the raison d'etre?
Is this a really big hobby?

Cheers

I think it ties in with the title which is Toy Collectors, rather than model makers or  constructors.

It's sounds a complete disappointment.

Like anything, there are those that collect-various themes. And those that build.

It is like the 'Yesteryear' collections that did the rounds years ago, same thing really. Model diecast trucks have been around for years and collectors go for them but they do seem large scale-maybe that is what is happening now.

The large, RC versions go for a bomb so maybe somebody has thought of doing a static version. You could always get 1/24 truck model kits but not seen any built up.

The Toy Fair was good - but from the sheer number of these truck models on sale, there's obviously a whole area of toy collecting that I was unaware of.

These are die-cast model trucks, made like large Dinky types, about 18" long overall. They do not look as though they can be made to function, they are just static collectables.

Never seen so many of one type in one place before - loads of stalls selling them.
