Sir Kay - New member fumbling around
« on: July 06, 2015, 01:13:22 pm »

Anyone have start build photos of Caldercraft Sir Kay Round Table class minesweeper.
Caldercraft do not even have a photo on their boxes these days and the instructions show that some white metal parts are slowly being replaced with wood.
Grateful for any help.

Hi I am a "newbie" and trying out the notice boards .
I have just stumbled across "Beginners start here" I think this could be me.

A pretty advanced modeller for around 40 years I have recently turned my hand to Caldercraft, Billings and Artisana static and RC boats.
My most recent is the Sir Kay and I am finding the intial start instructions pretty non existent. For instance at the centre between the stern and the bow what should be the distance from the rail to the deck ? I know that at the stern it is 18mm.

If any photos of a "in Build" are available or any clues available would be delighted.

I think since Jotika took over Caldercraft things are not the same.

Type "Sir Kay" in the search box, then take you pick.  Lots of threads.

You have probably already picked this up, but a lot of people have had stability issues with the Sir Kay kit. You need to do everything you can to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible.

Hi Colin

Definitely something I'll have to look out for, as you say a few guys have pointed this out.  If I get stuck I'll shout for tugs.

Malcolm

If only everything was as easy...never even thought of the search box.
Cheers

Don't use SLA batteries, NiMH sticks in the bottom are as low as you can go!

Thanks for that tip Colin, appreciated.
Just getting to the engine and steering stage , not much room to work but should be fine. Brannern and Talacre were more roomy with virually a flat bottom hull. Good challenge though.
