Hi all thought i would post some pic of the Pamela 3

I have given her a much shallower draft than she should have, from experience I built one at 6' and by the time i added enough ballast to put her at the plimsole line I could not pick her up (I could actually stand in that hull and it stayed afloat and I weighed 10 stone at the time)this one is only 4'1" though.

to make the centres I cut them from a cd. you know the spools that you get when you buy 25 or 50 cd's i got a blank cd and drilled 4 holes in it the first hole at the measurement of the outside of the first ring, the second hole at the measurement of the inside of the first ring, the third hole at the outside of the second ring and the fourth hole at the measurement of the inside of the second ring.the holes were  just slightly smaller diameter than a 1" nail then i filed the nails to a chisel point pushed the nails through the holes so they protuded out the other side slightly further than the thickness of a cd then i turned the cd over and glued a handle to the other side. now here is the ingenious bit you know the black spool the cd's come in with the big long spindle you stick some double sided tape to a blank cd turn it over so the double sided tape is downwards and drop it over the spindle (which now sticks your blank cd centrally at the bottom of the spindle you now get your tool you just made drop that over the top of the spindle (nails pointing downward) and twist round the spindle to cut out two perfect rings ( it takes a while but, trust me it works).hope this all makes sense.

I have lots more to post on this model but we are off out soon so cant post them yet and we have family over tomorrow but will try and post some more if I can find time hope you like it so far.

Ok I am back home so to put some more picks up.

this is the deck going on and an idea for the boiler.

the decking is (wont say where from but stirrers from a popular coffee shop)

I think the spray can works quite well as the boiler with the addition of the wood cladding.

The stairs were by far the hardest things to make on this build but am quite pleased with them.

started putting the rc gear in I was going to make it shaft driven but had problems with (when testing) snapping the shaft or the shaft just slipping, in the end decided on belt drive(Yes I know you are all yelling they didnt make a belt driven Sternwheeler but hey its my model and anyway i dont have the engineering skills of she would ne steam driven).

the funnels are being fabricated  from our old shower curtain pole and a bit of copper wire.

its now of course i realise all that work on the boiler was a waste of time sa of course you can barely see it now,

So she is nearing completion but still a fair amout of detail to add.

So that's her up to date what do you think, Yes I know she should be steam driven but i don't have the skills.

Impressive.

How long have you been working on it?  Do you have a nice speaker tucked into the Texas deck to give us the whistle sound?

I have an old mp3 player that I am trying to find original riverboat music for I then intend to put that on a docking station in her and play that whilst she is paddling. I am finding it difficult to find free riverboat music though.

Hi all my catastrophe with the C17 (a revell plastic kit thats fighting me all the way has me on the ropes at the moment)has got me back onto my grand old lady temproarily anyway.
so I got her off the shelf and the first thing I notice is she needs lots of cleaning(I must remember to cover her up when not doing work on her)

so done the saftey rope round the crews deck

next is a lot of cleaning may have to remove all the rigging to do that properly (don't mind as i have some proper rigging line now)then I have to figure something out for the tops of the funnels.

Hi all well I've removed the rigging to aid cleaning.

as you can see I've also removed part of the deck to show the boiler as you couldn't really see it before ( also it helps with cleaning access).
