Graupner multispeed 140 unit motor removal question.
« on: July 30, 2015, 11:30:29 am »

Hi Guys
I have a George Turner small fishing boat with the little multispeed 140 unit
installed and the motor has died after a fall from a high shelf in the workshop helped by the cat from
next door >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( <*< <*< <*< .

I have rebuilt the boat and repainted it but
what I can't work out is how to remove the motor from the unit to fit a new one
has any one done this please? I can't see any screws holding the motor in the housing.

Thanks

Derek

If there are no screws on the front end, the motor may be a push fit.
Try twisting them out .... quite enthusiastically!
( If your unlucky, they may be glued in! )

Hi Martin
Thanks I was hoping someone had a copy of the instructions they could scan for me.
Tried to pull the motor and twist it but it is stuck fast..
Its a very tight fit in the GT fishing boat not sure what to do next.

On the version with a 360 motor, the gearbox cover pops off the base plate away from the motor revealing a couple of screws mounting the motor to the base plate.  Otherwise, if things were done differently on smaller units, like Martin says, its either a push fit or a push fit helped by adhesive.

If your motor is defiantly US why not cut the motor off ,with care , just cut away and do not cut the shaft if the only thing you want is the Gearbox .Iknow it's Ok me writing this its not mine ,but if it will not work you have all to gain and nothing to loose , failing that send it to me and I will have a go to part ,this only applies if the motor is out of the boat ,or do I misunderstand and you can not get the motor out of the boat.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the input the problem is one of the wire connections has come off the spade has
snapped from in the plastic end of the motor leaving nothing you can see.
I will try to remove the grub screws from the gears on the motor and prop shaft and if I can get the whole thing
out of the boat and then perhaps I can get the motor replaced .
This boat is only 12" long so it is a very tight space to get into.

Hi Guys
Finaly managed to get the motor and gearbox case out of the boat.
The case is a push fit on the prop shaft and came with a pull and twist
and a lot of rude words...

The motor is still stuck in the gear case plastic but I think I can get a new wire onto
the remainder of the spade connector if I am careful the brushes on the motor are fine
so I think I am back in the game .

Thanks for the replies and the helpful ideas..
