1/24 Static display plastic model cars
« on: August 07, 2015, 10:58:15 am »

Hi all

Planning to resurrect making 1/24 scale static display plastic model car kits - the usual suspects made by Tamiya, Revell etc
Really like the idea of building a set of 70s, 80s, 90s Le Mans cars and setting them out in a diorama of some kind..

Anyone else into these?
Any hints and tips on tracking down how to get hold of some of the discontinued kits welcomed!

Don't forget the Merit kits of the 50/60s, some really nice subjects. Unstarted kits are very expensive, but you often see made up ones on Ebay, and it's easy to improve them.

My Brother in Law is very heavily into these.

Rather an expensive hobby it seems, like Jonty said the unstarted kits can go for a fortune. He recently sold a couple in his collection for about £1,200 each, and bought another at around the same price.
Bargains do come up from time to time but it's rather ruthless out there.

Bootfairs and things like that can be very good at tracking kits down but it takes a patient man!
