Thanks for the advice maybe I will rub it down then decant the spray into my ab.

Before you respray can I suggest you try some of this stuff

I used this on my Tirpitz.  The PO had made a start and painted the bottom half of the hull in a gloss ferrari red of unknown origin and I had no end of issues
I'll pop over with the Alfa kit at the weekend and drop a can off for you to try
