Ikea blinds
« on: September 09, 2015, 04:51:15 pm »

Been looking on Ikea site for the slatted blinds that are made out of Lime, many of us use these for planking on models, but could not see them. Has anyone been to Ikea recently to look for these?, be a shame if they are no longer available  :((

M180, M18, M1, M62 Ned {-) {-) Don't be persuaded to just 'drop in' at Junction 32 (outlet shopping park) on the M62 on the way home. Last time we went there on a saturday, swimbo insisted we book in to the premier inn so she could shop on the sunday as well %%

 >>:-(....IKEA seem to be using ultra thin laminated bamboo blind slat material with a synthetic imitation wood grain overlay  :P

In OZ, we have M4 and M6, but not those funny sizes like  M180, M1, M18 & M62  :}.....that M180 would require a 24" diameter table top saw bench to slice into planks....however slicing up M1 thick blind slat material on a 24" diameter saw blade would also be challenging...... {-)....... Derek

Safe on that one Brian.
Went there a few years ago and
SWMBO got a dicky tummy after a meal
in one of the restaurants and won't go near the place.

Ah Ned but my route takes you past that other great shopping experience, the Meadowhall centre. Another place where we had to book an overnight hotel for shopping purposes {:-{

AlanP , my neighbour just put a (highly perfumed) venetian blind in the skip. It has been de-stringed and now awaits a purpose in a new location. Any ideas?    50 pieces 120cm x 3.5cm x3mm.  Don't know the brand or type of wood but seems OK for modelling.

I think you ought to get yourself into that skip and retrieve it, then carefully stash it away on a shelf for future use.
If you can see the grain in the wood it is probably pine (quite a lot are) if the grain is barely visible it more than likely will be Lime.

It is a lovely timber and it sounds like you have enough for a couple of models.

Just for information -
I bought a wooden slat venetian blind at a boot sale last week (£4)  %)
I've noticed a label on the bottom indicating that it's from Argos.
Argos still sell wooden blinds (but at a lot more than £4)  :((
I don't know what the wood is but it looks like it might be walnut.  It's 2.3mm thick and nice and flexible.
