Hi all,

Have just bought a Graupner 'Fuchs' off e-bay for £20 - no motor, rudder, prop or shaft and a few small bits missing but otherwise OK.

What scale would be the best to use? The kit says it is a 1/40th, but I cannot find fittings for it at that scale! I am looking for a Danforth type anchor, vertical bitts, towing bitts (double cruciform type) cleats (which are called fairleads but trust me, as an ex tugman, fairleads are totally different!), vents, radar scanner and nav light boards, winch (towing or general purpose) crane and last of all - what motor and shaft size plus prop would be useful and could I fit a steerable kort?

Any help would be most gratefully received. PS - I am an absolute novice so treat me like the average idiot!

Graupner and Robbe both do 1:40 scale.

Thanks lads - got a good hit from Cornwall models, and will give them a try and see what they come up with.

Any hints on how to paint the glass (plastic really) see through wheelhouse?

Rub down with a fine wet and dry paper and paint. The last one I did was the Robbe PT 15 and I masked the windows and sprayed with Plasticote primer.
Remember to cover the insides of the windows to prevent over spraying. Bluebird also did it on his build.

I'm still working on an ex RTR Dickie / Hen Long 'Workboat' which I have savaged and added to, and she's a good way from being finished. At the moment I might static her buit who knows...? Once that is done, I plan to make a start on the 'Fuchs' but am loking at major mods to make her appear better.........

to give a more scale appearance, you could plate over the super structure with ABS, having cut out the window frames and sprayed first, that way your windows will look set-back rather than flush.

She's still in the box at the moment - winter project maybe! House painting / son visting / sis in law visiting (3 weeks course at Brize Norton...) and work first!

Oh the pains of reality........
