Natchez 1920
« on: September 21, 2015, 06:14:15 pm »

Interesting subject for a model the Twin-screw Tunnel-Stern Towboat NATCHEZ was built in the early 1920's and was 200 feet x 40 feet with a draft of 6.5-7 feet.  These vessels and those like them were reputed to be among the most powerful river boats of the period.

Very similar set-up to the Insect Class river gunboats.  Twin screw tunnel hulls.

Many of them look alike until you dig deeper and find that they are in fact quite different.  Especially if you do a few drawings of the various hulls.  Never the less I find them very interesting vessels and well worth a look.

The World Ship Society published some supplements on the Insect Class gunboats and a few on the Nile gunboats.  These are also worth looking at for future projects, but they are very different from the river boats of the US.  Great little ships.
