This boat used to be owned by a guy on here, I think, with the forum name of 'baloo'.

I am sorry but I think you are wrong there Mr Furball.

I don't know who Baloo is but the history of this and other boats in the sale are that this was in a sale of house clearance at a local auction house with three other models. One called the Leicestershire, another called the Frances Bowater and a third called Bluebird of Chelsea, and all were scratch built and all static models, built by the same man local to the area. It was his relatives that put the contents of his house including these four models that he built up for sale after his death.

Kind regards,
Jim

Apologies if not, but look at :

and scroll down the list of posts and you'll see something that looks remarkably like it, and that it was made as a static model.

yes, Mr Furball.

it is the same model.

Well I'll be blessed, and the auction house said it was made by the person who made all the other boats as well. Perhaps he was a collector rather than a builder.

One can only go by what the auctioneer says at the time I suppose. Mind you it still doesn't detract from the fact that it is a very nice model.

My friend has just informed my that my model didn't sell at the bring and buy sale at the Blackpool Boat show this weekend and he has taken it back to his home until I decide what to do with it.

But sadly as I am not an accomplished modeller by any means there is not a lot I would be able to do with it myself.

If it is made from planks on bulkheads and it were to be made as a sailing boat would the wooden hull stand up to sailing it now and then.

Other than that, it may be heading for an online auction site.

If your friend is called Neil, then
I think he is by far the best guy
to recommend how to go if you
would like to sail the model.

yes he is Ned.........I met him some years ago when I was living down in Cromer. He came to the old lifeboat station where the H F Bailey was housed before she went to the new purpose built museum, asking for plans for the boat. I lent him a set and we have been friends ever since. I moved into the area a little while ago after my wife died as I had lived up here near Blackpool  many years ago before getting married and moving south.
As for modelling, I don't want to bother him with my model problems unless absolutely necessary as he has his own to models build, and to be honest would like to learn a little myself.

My model finally went to ebay a couple of weeks ago and was successfully sold.

My friend put it on the site for me and when it sold at the weekend he told me that the gentleman was picking it up today, and that there may be a surprise for me once the gentleman had been to collect the lifeboat.

What a surprise Neil had for me.

the gent who bought it had had a model lifeboat kit for some time which he didn't feel confident at building and so asked Neil if he or I were interested in it, and so I am now the very happy owner of a lifeboat kit, which I feel as though I might be able to, with Neil's help, construct this kit into a working model which I wanted in the first place. And all for an even more magic price of £75.00p. I don't know how much these kits go for new as I can't find one on the web sites, but I think that it is a bargain.

A lot of reading of all the information supplied and watch the DVD also in the box but I think that by New Year I will be able to begin.

Thank you to all those who gave me information and the incentive to try to do something, and a big thanks for Neil who had the surprise of the year for me.

Thanks all.

Jim.

Having read this thread with interest, I am pleased for you that you have got the best of both worlds; namely a model that you can have a go at building and one that you can sail at the end of it.

What with your friend's assistance and, the wealth of clever modellers and advice, you should have no trouble building her.

Good luck:O)

Thank you Ballastankian.

With the help from my friend and those on here who I see doing fantastic models I think I have a chance of doing a reasonable job to satisfy my own interest.
