EVERYONE has had ESC problems at one time or another so to imply that one manufacture is worse than another would be unfair….. unless everyone says it,  ( which has been the case on this forum for another products and services) which we’ve let stand.

For example, if you had, say a “Carlos Fandango” car that was very unreliable, it would be inequitable to say "They're all rubbish!” That would be bit a partial ……

It's very hard to maintain an unbiased balance on this forum …. which is our job as moderators to maintain..... besides, I think your post still says everything it said before ....... doesn't it?

You got in trouble for having a go at me, when I was just passing my experiences on in an impartial way as a MODELLER, DOH! AND NOT A MANUFACTURER having a go at another one. I DON'T DO THAT!, due to a thread started by some body else, you went over the top, I didn't. I didn't see what you posted and as luck would have it , when you got banned otherwise  legal; things may have arisen!

No problems, be carefull, some of us on here are both modellers first with years of experience and manufacturers second and I hope everyone can assymalate this at some point.

Just to change tack as it were back to Mtroniks S/C   I have my first and it seems to work fine but a question for those more used to them than me .
Are they supposed to make a noise ? Mine gives a shrill very high pitched noise as it operated . Sounds wierd to me . Apart from that it works fine .

Hi Shane, I like that bit, it reassures me that its working, others do it too! Then there will be the guy who says it shouldn't. I really don't mind the noise, it makes people think there is an E.D. 209 from the film Robocop in there, LOL ;D

like a whisling noise at low motor RPM? dont worry about it, its normal, ALL My electronise esc's do it, only one that i have not noticed doing it is my Proboat tornado 50, mind you that is next to a big motor which tends to growl a little

Subdriver as for the remark on reliability, Every manufacturer has the odd doozie every now and then, whether you be model slipway, graupner, even paul simpson has probably had defective items come out if the moulds, though like everything else, quality control will usually stop the faulty goods going for sale, if a faulty item does reach the shops that doesnt mean that the entire range is ****!

my proboat esc went bang, what did I replace it with, another proboat of identical spec.

All my defective items get scrapped, occasionally there may be the odd one that slips through, the question is, what does G.O.D. do Ghosty? There are some humans on this planet that can not have passed quality controll, does he strike them down in public, or does he do it quietly in their sleep? ???

There are some humans on this planet that can not have passed quality controll,

i can name a few, tony blair for one!

probably the liverpool council for 2 but lets not go down there ~lol~

paul out of the millions of parts mass produced by any manufacturer, the odd duffer is bound to creep though, not the fault of anyone.

question what do you do with the scrap resin, can it be reground and used again?

its got to the point Colin, we have got a granulator now to turn bad resin fittings into powder instead of using filler powder, its pure resin grit that goes back in, "SAVE THE WORLD GO GREEN!

I hate it when a mould don't work or it don't suck down right, so summut had to give,  OOP'S, Too many secrets! ;D

We've always used Mtroniks ESC in the RC cars until the lads wanted more features on them ie different start acceleration, different throttle response, brakes etc and at the time Mtroniks were only building fairly standard ESC's although capable of handling 'hot' motors.

The only reason any of our Mtroniks ESC's stopped working was due to the very hard physical abuse they got in cars ie collisions with other cars and walls! None failed as a direct result of use.

I'd suspect most failures are owner induced and certainly if someone had 2 or 3 failures in a short time, I'd seriously suspect their set up and use regime was to blame (not pointing the fingure at anyone. Its just if someone has more than one failure in a short period of time they must be doing something wrong.)

well my proboat gave an aucuble BANG when i plugged it in once, not sure what it was, so it got replaced.  I was also told that PB had a bad batch of the tornado type, however i found it to be ideal for the najade

The whistling noise that lets us know that the ESC is working is because they work by switching the motor on and off several thousand times a second.  The whistle is from the motor windings trying to keep pace.  Older PWM controllers used to switch at the radio frame rate, 50 times a second, and used to hum at low speed.  People complained about that as well.  The only truly silent controllers are the resistance type, and they usually offer comparatively poor control accompanied by plenty of heat.

in reply to justboatonic, pretty sure the failures were not down to me. they are 15A jobbies and operating a geared motor with an out of water load of less than 2A, and not alot more in the water, put an ameter on them.
as i said, they would work, turn them of. next time turned back on, no joy. and it only happened on one controller at a time( 2 in boat). i have been wondering wether it may have been because i had removed the red wire from one of them, to run on the boats battery. now i have removed the red wires from both of them and am running on a dedicated battery supply. having said that, havnt been out to play recently.
on the other hand it may well have been wot a phew of you have been saying, one of those things.
