WWII Vehicle restoration
« on: November 15, 2015, 09:10:09 pm »

I've had many pastimes and hobbies over the years. I decided decades ago that you only live once, so give it all a try. Over the years many of the things I've been interested in have fallen by the wayside, mainly due to dwindling funds and redundancy coming along at the wrong moment in time. A couple of things have lasted the test of time however. I like to build/restore things: over the past 30 years I've built dozens of large scale radio controlled aircraft. As the years went by I progressed to restoring old classic WWII vehicles, I'm just coming to the end of a 3 year restoration of a 1942 Willy's Jeep. Linked to this, I have been collecting pre-1995 deactivated WWII weapons for many years and have an interesting collection, that includes Browning .30 Cals, Thompson SMG's, Bren guns, Sten guns, Lee Enfields, an MG42, an MP40 and many more. I've attached some images of my latest restoration, it's been a 3 year job.

Hi Big Dog,
Back in the 1980's I was working for a VW Audi dealership. One of our customers - a local farmer - brought in a 1942 Willy's jeep that he had found under a pile of hay bales in a barn. His Dad had used it to transport derv and creosote around the farm so it had been well preserved by all the spillages. It had been put in the barn and forgotten for about 25 years! We were originally just asked to get it running but ended up doing a full restoration back to wartime condition (all in our own time with parts paid for by the owner) and were allowed to drive it to Blackbushe airfield for the big D Day rally. Great fun and I've wanted one of my own ever since. What a great job you have made of it - I am so envious...

Dave.

Hi Dave

I've attached a few images of what this jeep looked like when I bought what was left of it. Has taken me almost 3 years to get it to what it is today. Must admit that I'm very pleased with it. It's one of the best I've done.
